We
are a small group of individuals who operate British Cycling's photofinish and electronic
timing equipment at road and track events around the
UK. For many years the responsibility of providing this
service has rested on the shoulders of a dwindling number of dedicated
people, and more volunteers are always needed. If this service seems to be something which may interest you, please get in touch. We would be delighted to hear from you. The
main focus of our activity is the provision of photofinish
facilities at all cycling events at national and local level, and British
Cycling currently own three FinishLynx digital cameras
which allow us to carry out this work. Normally based
in the South East, Midlands and North West, these units
cover the whole of England and Wales, whilst a similar
camera is held by the SCU in Scotland for races held under their jurisdiction. Each
kit comprises a camera, laptop, tripod and ancillary
equipment, and we are fully self-sufficient with our
own power supplies. Transport consists of a fleet of
Vauxhall Vivaro vans which also double as our working areas.
A
smaller, but equally vital part of our operation is
the provision of electronic timing facilities at major track meetings
around the country, as well as supplying a similar service
for the occasional timetrial. Our timing equipment and
scoreboards were manufactured by Omega Electronics in Switzerland. You are welcome to browse this site. More detailed desciptions of our activities can be found by selecting the various menu options. We are always interested in new pictures or other material, so please feel free to contribute.
To any race organisers who have not yet used this service and who may have found this site for the first time, may I suggest reading the first two documents on our 'Tips' page which describe our requirements for the positioning of race numbers. It is a waste of our time and your money if we can't identify riders whose numbers do not face the camera.
All enquiries regarding the hiring of photofinish and/or timing facilities should be made direct to Brian Furness at British Cycling and not to members of the Technical Services Team, although we will gladly pass on any communication made to us. |
