I went to the Excel Arena for the Bike Show Crit. There should have been more than one race, but there wasn't enough entries to justify more than one!

Great chance to use the tripod again, I thought, but when I got there I found they were using the Tour of Britain start towers and gantry. These are not as substantial as those used at ToB finishes, and the towers were right up to the barrier. So the only thing for it was to go as high as possible and clamp the camera to the tower.

Fortunately the new ladders I bought could be used as normal extension ladders. The picture (right) shows the general idea.

It wasn't easy because there was no room to clamp to the horizontals, so I had to fix it to one of the diagonals (left).

Made life interesting trying to pan and tilt with the thing at such an angle. Still, it all worked out OK in the end.
