Unusual FinishLynx Images

Still one of my all-time favourites. This was taken by Bob on the West Coast main line. Roger was so taken with it that he included it on the CD of sample Lynx images. This is taking train-spotting to new limits!

Roger kindly sent the image on the left and said we could use it here. It was taken at an IndyCar race in 2003.

The cars were doing 200 mph and it's certainly a close run thing. It shows the versatility of the FinishLynx system and, more to the point, the numbers are facing the camera.

Cycling could learn something here!

They're nothing but shadows of their former selves! I get the feeling that Bob has slightly 'doctored' this Lynx image taken at the National Agricultural Centre, Stoneleigh early in 2005

Taken at the World Masters (old fellas) Rowing Championships in Scotland. Roger was able to settle a protest by consulting the FinishLynx image.

He comments:-
"The top boat started in lane 6. In rowing you can move out of lane as long as you do not impede any other boat/s. Lane 6 drifted over into lane 7 at about the half way point then just 30m from the finish moved over again into lane 8 pushing the legal lane 8 boat almost off course. Lane 6 crossed the finishline first and vociferously celebrated their win, however they were rightly disqualified by the judges for impeding - this prompted a heated protest, lane 6 claiming lane 8 had deliberately clashed with them. BUT they didn't count on the photofinish camera capturing their illegal move."

I like this photo - just as we see curved spokes on a bike wheel, the rowers appear to be using curved oars. In the dim and distant past I recall O-Level physics where the principle was explained to us. Damned if I can remember it though.

Bob took this at a Buckley/Ladies event just outside Radcliff on Trent, and as he points out "The best bit is that all 4 of the pony's feet are off the road if you look at the shadows. (How do they do that?)"

Here's a great Lynx image from Roger. His comments? "Why not set a competition amongst your operators for the most creative image?" Well, I don't see why not so let's have a few more. The usual payment rules apply.

Seems like a new trend has started! Here, Bob added some legs (above) to go with Roger's arms. It's from stage 1 of the Tour of the South. Notice the long right foot which seems more appropriate for a circus clown.

No, it's not a toy car!

The ever watchful Bob caught this fast moving police car whilst he was carrying out his own speed check.

I often wondered whether he took any cycling images as well.

A couple of strange happenings passing the finish at the Horwich Carnival.
