National Road Championships 2010

Only 40 minutes from where I live, the tiny village of Barley in the Pendle area of Lancashire was host to the National Road Championships in 2010.

Close to the well known Trough of Bowland, this was a great location for both the men's and women's races, which went out live on British Eurosport.

It's nice when the race is in your own backyard and it turns out such a great success. Beautiful scenery, a good crowd, lovely weather and totally closed roads for the whole day.

Here's a selection of pictures from the championships....

The TV production was great. I recorded it and watched it when I got home, but it took a lot of time and money to put it all together.

Above left is the TV scanner where the program was compiled, and the group of women on the right are part of the production team.

In the centre of the group is Sharon Fuller, now a director of Century Television, with whom I had worked on the Tour Series.

The area is extremely hilly, and the huge crane on the left was used with it's jib fully extended to provide radio and TV communications around the circuit.

And now for some final pictures of the day.
