Clowbridge Reservoir can be found to the east of the A682 between Burnley and Rawtenstall, and is close to an area of the Burnley Millennium Forest. The reservoir was completed in 1866, flooding most of the tiny hamlet of Gambleside. Some ruins of Gambleside which dates back to 1242 can still be found.

Not far from Burnley, the reservoir is a great centre for watersports and is the home of the Rossendale Valley Sailing Club. It is 900 feet above sea level, a factor which probably accounts for its' popularity with the sailing and windsurfing fraternity.

However it is also a popular venue for walkers and day-trippers, and the 2 mile walk around the lake offers some spectaular views.
