Ogden Reservoir, Haslingden

Ogden Reservoir, Haslingden

To the west of Haslingden is a glaciated valley known as Haslingden Grane. The area contains three reservoirs which date back to the 19th century. This one, Ogden Reservoir is the middle of the three, the other two being Holden Wood Reservoir which is closer to Haslingden and beyond the view shown here, and Calf Hey Reservoir which is behind where this picture was taken from.

It is reputed that the hamlet of Haslingden Grane (part of which was flooded when the reservoirs were created) was the centre of an illegal whisky distilling industry.

This picture was taken early in the morning from Calf Hey Road.
