The Reheboth Particular Baptist Chapel on Goodshawfold Road opened for worship on 24th August 1852, although the congregation had used other premises in the area since around 1826. An
adjoining cottage was incorporated into the Chapel building at a later
date. |
I was fortunate in being allowed access inside the Chapel and its' grounds, and the images here are more than I thought I would be able to obtain. Another angle in this picture (right) shows part of the graveyard and it is obviously kept in a clean and tidy condition. |

I was unsure as to whether the Chapel is still actually open for worship, but the cleanliness inside, together with the fact that there is still a Bible on the pulpit and hymn books stacked on the pews would tend to indicate that services may still be held here.
|
I am told that there is a possibility of planning permission being sought in order to change the use of the building to private housing, which seems a great shame. However it is preferable than it being allowed to decay, something which has affected many of the valley's old Churches. |

Note the picture (left) showing a plaque in memory of two of the Chapel's stalwarts of the glory days, Robert Maden and John Sutcliffe. |
The final picture (right) shows the room downstairs which I take to be part of the cottage which was incorporated into the Chapel. Plenty of building work going on here in this room which was for many years devoted to education. |
